[Personality]: At the point of time chosen for Elsa, she's going through a huge transition in her personality and actions. It's not so much that she changes but that she just stops hidding herself from everything.

But before we go to that it's important to know where Elsa comes from and what she's moving away from. There are basically two traits that move the character through her whole story and life: her love for Anna and her fear. If there's something Elsa has always been sure of is that she loves Anna, she's her precious little sister and the thing she wants to protect the most. She also cares for her people and kingdom, but Anna is much more important, and it's her safety what worries Elsa the most. She wants Anna to be happy and safe and is willing to do anything to achieve that, including shut herself away from her. However she still tries and takes the risk of governing her kingdom while still pushing her sister away, and that's how it's clear what of those things means more for Elsa.

Ever since a tragic accident in which Elsa almost claimed her sister's life with her powers, she has been afraid of herself, of the damage she will cause. The warning the trolls gave her, meant to be an advice and make her understand the importance of learning to control her powers, was taken more literal than it was meant to. This misunderstanding didn't come just from Elsa, but from her parents as well, who figured that the control the trolls talked about was Elsa not manifesting her powers right and left, rather than learn to undo the freezing she can cause. Because of that, something she had initially been proud of and loved, became something she feared, a huge burden over her shoulders that only grew as she herself grew up, and her powers increased. Trying to protect Anna, Elsa shut herself away from her even more than what their parents wanted, they separated the kids in two rooms but no one ever told Elsa to avoid Anna at all costs. That was her own decision, because she could only see herself as a force of destruction and danger. A disaster waiting to happen.

That mindset accompanies Elsa even now, it's deeply rooted inside her, she doesn't want to be considered a monster, yet she's the first one to consider herself so. It's not a matter of "something that could happen", but "something that will definitively happen". Still, for the sake of her parents and her kingdom, Elsa tried her best in learning to control her powers and become a rightful ruler for Arendelle. Elsa always tried to be perfect, a living example of grace and poise. A knowledgable ruler who would be kind and fair, and take care of Arendelle the same way her father used to. For years, she lived restraining herself, concealing all of herself and not just her powers, trying to feel nothing to avoid having her powers run wild. She effectively caged herself, not just inside the castle but inside of herself. Still she yearned for her sister as seen during the coronation ball in which Elsa tried to reach out to Anna, which was unexpected for the other but welcomed, and it's clear that for her that brief moment was something she had been wishing for, however the moment Anna commented on how they should do it more often, Elsa backed down knowing that it was impossible due her powers. In fact, during most of her interactions with Anna, the moment things seem to go well, and a hope for their relationship appears, Elsa literally has flashbacks to the accident. Elsa' fear, controls her whole life and interactions, drowning everything else, specially her love for Anna.

It's ironic that Elsa never came to realize that back when she was a kid, when she didn't fear herself and allowed herself to freely feel, she actually had more control over her powers than as an adult. Though it's true that even if she did, she probably blamed it on her powers being less powerful back then.

When everything she had worked for went to ruin, Elsa was finally confronted by her worst fears. Her powers exposed in the worst possible way, her people, her guests and her sister afraid of her, looking at her with fear finally seeing past the perfect heir mask and seeing just a monster. Elsa didn't have the strength to face that and ran away, realizing that she had always been right: life in Arendelle wasn't meant for her, she never belonged there. However, the catastrophic event isn't completely shadowed by sadness as once she gets to the north mountain, far, far away from Arendelle's castle, Elsa slowly starts to understand her situation and that she's, finally, free.

Away from everyone, in a place where there's no one but her, Elsa doesn't have to worry about her powers, about the damage that she's bound to cause. Slowly, she frees herself from her own constrains, realizing that there's no longer anyone who can judge her, whom she can hurt. She goes back to a time when she didn't fear her powers and begins to test them, realizing for the first time in years how much power she has and the kind of things she can do, remembering that it's not just destruction what her ice can create. At this point, Elsa comes to the determination of never returning to Arendelle, she's saddened because of how she's abandoning her life and Anna, but at the same time the relief she feels finally letting go of herself is too great. After years of living under it, fear doesn't have a hold on her anymore, she's not afraid of herself, instead she is proud of herself and her powers. She's not a perfect girl, but she doesn't care. Of course, though, a fear as great as hers can't vanish so easily, in fact it doesn't vanish, but away from others it loses strength. Because it doesn't matter how dangerous she is, if she's alone no one will be hurt. However, as seen in the movie, as soon as Elsa finds herself confronted by Anna, a sister that wants to reach out to her and not let her alone, Elsa's fear resurfaces and takes control of her once more.

While feeling free of the fear that kept her caged, Elsa demonstrates a more playful nature than while she was trying to be perfect and in many ways seems to regress to the way she was before the accident. She also demonstrates pride and excitement regarding her powers which contrast with the fear and shame she has felt about them in all those years of seclusion. There's still a lot of her that remains unchanged though, her grace and poise are still there, now meshed together with a more forward and less submissive attitude. Her kindness remains in place, as well as her love for Anna and, despite feeling free and enjoying it, there's still something in her that yearns for more. To be able to be with others without fearing for her powers, to be able to be close to Anna again without risking hurting her. It's also important to note, that as far as Elsa knows, her power is rather unique, not something common or that others posses, not even a power "similar" to hers. This adds to the feelings of isolation and displacement as there's no one who could understand her or help her.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:

Abilities:

Elsa was born with strong cryokinetic powers, that is, the ability to create and manipulate ice and snow. When she was just a child, her power was already strong enough to turn the huge ballroom of the castle into a "winter wonderland", covering it all with snow and later freezing it completely after Anna's accident, all this with little effort or signs that it tires her out. As an adult, she can unconsciously fill a whole kingdom with ice and snow, freezing even the sea around it. Her control over the elements of ice and snow is absolute and tied to her emotions, she's capable of producing mere inoffensive snowflakes or to unleash a wild freezing blizzard, at the same time she's capable of manipulating the snow and ice that may already be in place due natural causes. While she often uses her hands to guide her powers, it's known that she doesn't need to as any part of her, even through clothing, can produce the magic which makes bounding her quite useless.

Her power is as much a part of her as her own head, it's because of that that even though she has never trained with it, nor knows the extent of her capacities, she can actually work with it and even masterfully fight with it. Just one thought and the ice and snow move to her command, most of the times, in fact, all that it's needed is just an ounce of an emotion for them to be set off and act the way she needs them to (even if she doesn't realize it herself). The way her power manifests also differs depending on what emotions she's having at the moment, which can be seen with her ice palace in the movie. While being calm and happy, finally relaxed, the castle shows a bluish taint on its walls which turns into purple as sorrow takes hold of her. When she starts to panic the palace turns red and threatening spikes form everywhere, finally when she's angry and being attacked, the palace becomes an amber structure as she fights. She's also shown to be able to create snowmen and snow golems with self-awareness and their own individual conscience, though at the canon point she's taken from she's not aware of this.

But ice magic isn't all Elsa has, even if it's a big part of it. Elsa was the heir to the throne of Arendelle and so was educated to be worthy of that position and to become a good ruler. She's intelligent and well versed in manners and political meetings. In Arendelle, the ruler isn't just a figure but a proper ruler, everything depends on their decisions, from trade to criminal justice. Everything is oversaw and decided on by the ruler. Because of that Elsa is someone capable of careful thinking and planning, she respects traditions and knows how to make decisions while taking into account the well being and benefit of those that depend on her. She's also been educated to be able to engaged in diplomatic discussions, knowing how to be understanding and respectful to those of other countries. That doesn't mean, though, that she's someone to be stepped on in those matters as she has no fear or problems in banning people from her kingdom if she doesn't approve of their actions and intentions.

Strengths:

Mental: Destined to become the ruler of a whole land, Elsa's education was diligent and exhaustive even if, as her powers grew, she was forced to be mostly self educated. Elsa's mind is brilliant and inquisitive, she loves math and geometry, philosophy and history. She has read a lot, given that there weren't many options for her to entertain herself while hiding in her room from everyone else. She's a very determined person and, unless forced by circumstances, is someone to think carefully about what she's going to do or say. Even when forced to act with little thought she will still go over it and think it well to determine if that was really the best course of action. She also has an artistic side which she rarely exploits and which is released through her magic with her ice sculptures and creations.

Physical: Elsa isn't a powerful, trained warrior, she's just human and physically she doesn't offer much regarding strengths. The only admirable and notorious "strength" that she posses is her endurance to extreme temperatures, be it a freezing cold or a blazing heat, Elsa isn't bothered by them at all. Given her powers it's natural that she wouldn't be bothered by the cold, her own body is probably constantly pretty cold at touch, those powers are the same reason why heat doesn't bother her as she's capable of conjuring ice no matter the environment's temperature (and if the heat is too intense all she has to do is keep using her powers to keep herself cool).

Emotional: While she's not someone to enjoy showing off her emotions, and she would prefer to consider herself rational over emotional, the truth is that Elsa is a very emotional person. Her emotions run raw and just a scratch away from her skin, both good and bad, which is both a blessing and a curse much like her powers. In fact, since her powers are tightly tied to her emotions, it's easy to see how strongly Elsa feels those emotions. Despite her willingness to isolate herself, Elsa is a caring person, she loves her sister and her parents a lot and cares for the people in her kingdom even if she has never had contact with them. So wishes for everyone to be happy and is willing to do anything to allow that to happen, she's not so selfless as to sacrifice her own life of course, but she's willing to sacrifice her full happiness for it, to sacrifice her relationship with Anna for everyone else's sake. She can be very sweet and loving, as seen when she was a kid and played with Anna, doing her best to please her sister and have fun with her. Elsa's strongest emotion is, in the positive spectrum, probably love, that's why when she allows herself to be loved and love back without fear she gains complete control over her powers.

Weaknesses:

Mental: Elsa's mind may be brilliant, but that doesn't mean much in the real world outside books and specific subjects. While she's not a fool, and she's wary of people (mostly due the danger that she represents than of the danger that they may present to her), Elsa isn't one to doubt the words of others. She certainly believed Hans words in an instant, though it can be argued that it was because his words struck right into what she feared the most, that still doesn't change that she can easily fooled. Her determination is at times detrimental to herself, she's not one to back down on her decisions precisely because of how much she thinks of them, she just can't accept that a whole reasoning she has done was wrong right from the start and thus lead her to a wrong decision. This confidence in her own decisions transforms into stubbornness and a complete refusal to listen to what others are telling her, which leads to her pushing others away no matter who they are (as seen when she avoids her father touching her, refusing to let her own parents close any longer, convinced that she will hurt them). In short it could be said that she has a serious complex of "Elsa knows better", for example: she's the older sister so she's the one who knows what has to be done and how, leaving all of Anna's suggestions and ideas to the dust. She's the one with the magical powers so she's the one who knows best how they work and how they can't be controlled and will hurt everyone, and no matter how much other people insist on the opposite, changing her mind isn't something she does well.

Physical: Despite her powers, Elsa is human. Swords, firearms and other people with special powers pose a threat for her and will be lethal if they hit her. Being a princess, Elsa is quite delicate regarding physical exercise, her stamina and endurance is average and she's not as energetic as her little sister. Her strength is also average, probably below it given her status which most likely lead her to never have to carry around heavy things.

Emotional: As said in the strength section, despite her wishes, Elsa's more driven by her emotions than anything else and it could be argued that her inability to control her own powers is just her inability to control her emotions. Now, while love is the strongest emotion she has in the positive spectrum, in the negative spectrum of emotions fear is the one that rules all. Her fear is so strong that it overrides and taints everything else. All her reasonings, all her love, all her caring, everything is tainted and chained to her fear. Due to her fear, Elsa is unable to even imagine a full happy-ending scenario, she can't accept Anna when she reaches for her, she can't accept herself because she's just plain terrified of what she may do, of how much pain she may cause. The reason her fear is so strong it's probably because it's born from all her positive emotions, she loves Anna and wants nothing but to protect her, and the fear on seeing her being hurt, on failing her, is what drives her away. Elsa is over-protective, worrying over the smallest details, always fearing for the worst, never considering the best or even an average solution. Her fear also causes her to be terrible insecure in herself, all the years spent trying to control her power and failing to only serve to plant more firmly that insecurity which in turns keeps feeding her fear even more.

[Limited Powers]: While the canon never really specifies the exact extent of Elsa's powers (she unleashed a sudden winter season in July and froze part of the sea, but it doesn't show exactly how far her power extended), it's clear that they are pretty big so they need a decent limitation. To begin with I would start by making her unable to set off an eternal winter in the middle of summer, she could freeze an island with her powers and create a snowstorm, but unless she kept using her powers the snow, and ice would melt naturally due the season's heat, it would resist longer than "natural" ice and snow but it would still melt eventually. Also, I will remove her capacity to freeze hearts as that's a lethal situation with a very specific type of cure. I think she could still be able to strike at other parts of the body and temporarily freeze someone but as stated before the ice will thaw without problems after some time has passed, and the effects won't be as drastic as in canon (no ice statues), as a whole the only ice that will never ever thaw will be the one her dress is made with for obvious reasons.

I would like her to keep the ability to create snow golems but they would be more like robots with no independent will or life and their snow bodies would melt when faced with heat just like all the other snow. However, I'm fine with taking that away from her (it's not even a power she is aware of having yet so she wouldn't miss it).

♦ Thread: Test Sail
♦ Post:

[Elsa has never seen a magic like this, capable of making a book send her voice all around the world to other books like this one, she would have never even imagined something like this. But in this strange world it exists. And she likes it. She likes to be able to talk to others without risking hurting them... If only people would remain there, in the distance, safe from her. But people need to get in contact with others, to be there, if she talks with the people in the ship she's currently in they will want to know why she's not out with them or want to be invited into her room. If she talks with people from other ships... The possibility that they will want to come and "know her" also exists.

She likes it, but it's a painful reminder of how half-hearted decisions are never good, she can't decide to be alone and the next second sail around an unknown world with people simply because she has been thrown into another world, neither can she just lock herself in a room and still reach to them through the book. If she's going to be alone to protect everyone, she has to be alone and to not talk to anyone. Like she did with Anna. She has to shut them out, completely, forever. Because the moment she hesitates and falters everything will go to ruin. Like it did with Anna. It pains her and she is terrified of what it may unleash within the crew she's with if they realize what she's planning to do, but it's for their own good. For her own good.

She can't stay. It feels ironic, though, that her only means to achieve her goal of isolation currently is to ask for help from others using that book. Hopefully no one will question her request too much.]

To my ill-fated companions in this other-worldly adventure:

I have been wondering if any of our ships has come across an uninhabited island, be it because no one has ever set foot there before or because whoever lived on it perished long ago. I have a personal interest in such an island so I would appreciate whatever information you could offer me, unfortunately so far all the islands the crew I'm with has come across have been populated.

If any of you are sailing near a place like that, I would also want to request passage so I can
[Run away there. Hide in whatever island that one is. Away from everyone. Alone.] visit the island in question. I don't have much but I'm willing to pay for this assistance, I have some money and I could offer some personal supplies, from what I know about sea travelling those are never a bad thing to receive and I guarantee they are of great quality.

Thank you for your time,

Elsa
